Baked follows hot on the heels of his first download only EP Recycled Broadcasts, which received positive acclaim internationally amongst numerous publications and his growing fan base.
“an album of the highest caliber…between gentle abstract structures, quirky glitched undertones and distintive melodic bass lines that build gradually, managing to evoke emotionally charged soundscapes leaving the listener wanting to experience the whole collection again and again. 8/10“

“Halogen is a talented young producer creating lush, gorgeous, thought-provoking music that demonstrates an emotional depth well beyond his mere 21 years. It distills everything that I love about Gas, Khonnor and Deaf Center into one beautiful album that captures that feeling of quiet, contemplative stillness you experience when you’re up super late at night, the only one still awake while the rest of the world is sound asleep.”

“I’ve been watching the progress of Halogen with interest since I first saw him live at the Glade Festival in 2008. This music, characterized by light, emotive guitar & synth work and subtle percussive elements culminates into a refreshingly coherent album, providing a big statement of intent for both Halogen and the flourishing Maternity imprint.”

One of the UK's most talented young producers, iambic becomes the second artist to indulge in our free download series. Dont' miss it!

MMDIG002. iambic :: Echos. Released April 6th 2009. Guy Andrews, otherwise known as iambic is an ambient producer based near Brighton, UK. At the age of 21, and with two full length albums and two EPs released, he is already making a mark on the ambient electro-acoustic scene. iambic’s sound fuses elements of traditional instruments with electronics, generating a blend of ambient electro-acoustic post-rock with elements of nu-jazz and breakbeat. iambic’s first releases were the two LPs ‘Under These Stars, We’ll Sleep Again‘ and ‘As The Snow Fell‘ that came out on the Austrian based electronica label Laridae in 2007/2008. Since then, iambic’s global fan base has steadily risen and combined with creating a live act to perform the songs, labels such as Somnia, Frisk and Fluid Audio have added iambic to their roster with various releases scheduled over the next year.

A word from the Ward:

Maternity are delighted to be supporting Guy with is forthcoming release, Echos. His talent for balancing melodic, post-rock urgency with intricate electronics is something pretty special. Over these 7 tracks (including a radio edit of Transitions and a remix of Terra Firma by our very own Halogen), Echos explores many themes and subtle musical directions, which are given backbone by his charismatic production. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do…and for free as well! What A Bargain!

Free track, I Live In New York, from wonky-pop futurists, We Yes You No...

Maternity are proud to announce the return of one of the UK’s most intriguing bands, We Yes You No. We have been following their progress over the last few years, observing their transition from anonymous obscurity into one of the most original live music experiences currently touring the underground scene.

Formed from adverts in music magazines and counting four different nationalities within their members, We Yes You No make avant-garde pop music that blurs boundaries between experimental and commercial, projecting the former under the guise of the later.

Their new EP, Somewhere on a Train is the first of three that the band will release this year as they build on their already impressive catalogue of releases and accolades. Maternity will be releasing a free track from each EP, starting this month with the haunting I Live in New York. We will follow this with a free download release of remixes of the band which will coincide with the release of the next EP.

Some words from We Yes You No:

“Hello. We are relatively new and relatively old. We sound like words, tones and notes – but better. We play atmospheric, eccentric and melodic songs, and try to tell people that the world is on the verge of turning flat. Our music, a kind of unusual, impressionstic art-rock with elements of noir, classical music and surf has been featured on several compilations (including Best of Myspace UK). We have recorded 2 EPs [ 'Everything' (2006) and Somewhere on a Train (2009)] and one full-length album [Music for Beginners (2007)]and are currently in the process of recording another 2 EPs.

We were awarded “Best Unsigned Recording of the Year” by Playmusic Magazine and our single “Dream in Motion” was described as “a timeless wonder” by Rob da Bank on BBC Radio1.”

The first in our series of free download releases...

To mark the launch of the Maternity website, we present the Halogen ‘Recycled Broadcast EP’, the first of a series of free download releases available from www.maternitymedia.co.uk. Artists are asked to create tracks based around certain themes, concepts or production techniques, bundled into a neat package with exclusive artwork, short videos and other electronic trinkets. Recycled Broadcasts EP explores human communication and weathered transmissions re-used in to alternate musical contexts, forging digital embers of layered voices from 1950’s commercials and static radio messages, staging a neo-narrative buried amongst melodic swells and rhythmic oscillations. Halogen (aka Adam Janota-Bzowski) collaborated with artist Laura Gibson whose delicately scuffed illustrations of Victorian ornaments and abandoned equipment provide a perfect tailored visual unity with the music. Also recruited was the talented Camberwell Art’s College student Stephen Tyrell, providing a solemn geometric image of ice-cracked lines nestled between photographs taken by Adam’s niece, aged 3. The passages of texts found in the sleeve notes are segments of poorly translated un-solicited emails (known as SPAM) found in Adam’s inbox. Their verbally nonsensical attempts at selling Viagra have been recycled to mirror the slurs and stutters of voices found in the tracks of the EP underpinning its theme of salvaged communications.

Press:

‘Halogen may be unknown to all but his locality, but his instrumental electronic music deserves a much wider audience’ Irish Independent

‘Very carefully crafted & tweaked, each track on the EP has a different feel to it, and all are of high quality & production. No filler here, only refined sonic gems. Glitch & IDM fans everywhere will delight in Halogen’s finely tuned ear.’ Becca Dakini (Australia) – Fluid Radio

‘A thrilling slice of cutting edge ambient glitch-tronica’ Adam Lacey – www.drop-d.ie ***
